SHC turns down PTI’s plea

Party moved court against deployment of Sindh cops in Capital to stop long march

KARACHI:

The Sindh High Court (SHC) rejected the plea of PTI's leader of opposition in the Sindh Assembly, Haleem Adil Sheikh for immediate hearing regarding sending 6,000 police personnel from the Sindh to Islamabad to stop the long march. Haleem Adil Shaikh and his lawyer did not appear before the court.

The court rejected the plea for an urgent hearing. The petition was filed with the viewpoint that the governments of Pakistan, Sindh, and IG Sindh should all be given orders and instructions to bring back 6,000 personnel.

Instead, the order should be given to the Sindh government and IG Sindh to deploy police personnel in Karachi to prevent street crime and should be sent to the flood-affected areas in the province where they are desperately needed.

Amendment in syllabus

The Sindh High Court has rejected the petition regarding the amendment in the syllabus in Sindh as inadmissible. A two-member bench headed by Justice KK Agha heard the plea. The petitioner's counsel said the inclusion of information technology and space technology in the curriculum should be made mandatory.

The lawyer, Sindh Tax Book Board, stated that the curriculum is continuously modified by the Sindh government, keeping in view the fast changing situation. In Sindh, the curriculum has been altered numerous times.

The court previously heard a similar application. It is contended to be dismissed as the petition needs to be heard. The court dismissed the petition as inadmissible.

Nazim Jokhio case

The Additional District and Sessions Judge Malir adjourned the indictment proceedings due to the non-appearance of the accused Jam Owais in the Nazim Jokhi murder case. Jail authorities did not present Jam Owais in court and his lawyer stated that he is in the hospital due to health problems.

The court adjourned the hearing till November 12. Meanwhile, the mother of deceased Nazim Jokhio recorded statement regarding reconciliation with accused before the Additional District and Sessions Judge. In her statement she said that there has been a reconciliation with six accused persons including Jam Owais.

She said that there is no pressure on her to reconcile with the accused. She has forgiven the accused. She said that the reconciliation with MPA Jam Owais and other accused has been made on the request of elders. She has no objection if the court acquits them.
