Pakistan is committed to strengthening anti-terror cooperation with China, Foreign Minister Hina Rabbani Khar said on Wednesday, rejecting reports that her country was a haven for militants blamed for an attack in west China.
Khar was speaking in Beijing after two days of talks ahead of a planned visit by President Asif Ali Zardari next week to Xinjiang, the restive west Chinese region where members of the Uighur minority have mounted attacks.

Pakistan has leaned closer to China after its already tense relationship with the United States, its major donor, was further strained in May when US forces killed Osama bin Laden in Abbottabad.
Yet China has its own concerns over Pakistan. Officials in Kashgar, a city in south Xinjiang, said a stabbing attack there in late July was orchestrated by members of the separatist ‘East Turkestan Islamic Movement’ (ETIM) who trained in Pakistan before returning to China.
Khar, however, said there were no rifts between Islamabad and Beijing over fighting militants, and rejected reports about a Pakistan link to the Kashgar attack.
“The statement vis-à-vis Pakistan’s involvement of any sort was misconstrued, was not from the Chinese government,” she told a news conference, referring to the Kashgar attack. “Does it (ETIM) have any base in Pakistan? We don’t know,” she said, adding that her government would cooperate with China to eradicate such threats.
“We have a wide history of cooperating with the Chinese people to be able to dismantle this group or its presence in any form,” she said.
Khar’s comments underscored their determination to set aside any potential public discord. She said security issues brought Islamabad and Beijing closer together, rather than driving them apart.
“We respond to that (issue) by increasing our cooperation in counter-terrorism, increasing our intelligence cooperation,” she added. “We need to make this even more robust.”
China’s Foreign Ministry has also praised Pakistan as a firm partner against terror and religious extremism, playing down the risk that ties could be strained by the attack. The statement did not mention any link to the Kashgar attack.

Pakistan’s ambassador to Beijing, Masood Khan, told Reuters that President Zardari will visit Xinjiang’s regional capital, Urumqi, next week to attend the China-Eurasia trade fair.
Besides her detailed talks with Chinese Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi, Foreign Minister Khar also had a meeting with Premier Wen Jiabao who said that her decision to make her first official visit to China reflected her commitment to further strengthening the friendship between the two countries. He said the all-weather friendship between the two countries was founded on the common principles of peaceful co-existence and mutual respect.
Khar said the Pakistan-China relationship was without parallel in the world of inter-state relations. The two countries enjoyed complete convergence of interest on all bilateral issues as well as international issues of mutual importance.
The Chinese premier expressed his appreciation for Pakistan’s unwavering support on issues of China’s core interests such as Taiwan, Tibet and Xinjiang. He also reiterated China’s unconditional support to Pakistan’s sovereignty and territorial integrity and renewed his country’s commitment to helping Pakistan’s post-flood reconstruction efforts.
According to Xinhua, Wen reaffirmed China’s support for Pakistan’s efforts in preserving national stability and promoting social and economic development.

He called on the two sides to promote the sustainable development of the Pakistani economy.

@Sunny Borah: You appear to be too wise to live in 21st century. 31st century would be a better era for you. My sincere advice if you are a Muslim: Please read Quran with translation and tafseer before being lined up in front of the creator.
@Khan....If you have such a pluralistic society & secular mind, I am wondering how come the Hindu population of (20% ) in 1947 got reduced to such a small level of 5.5% in 2011. Dont try to fool people by giving some few examples of Baisakhi festival & and a small number of minority who got elevated in the judiciary or civil society
@Udaya Bose: India is more than a Hindu state. It's a terrorist State as well. Where we must start? Should we start it from Tamil Tiger's training and Financing or we should rather start with 1962 invasion of India on China ? or intervention in 1971 or rather operation Blue Star or perhaps kashmir Genocide that started of innocent kashmiris some 20 years ago or Demolishing of babri Mosque and travesty of decision of Indian Supreme court of Property dispute of babri Mosque, or perhaps I should talk about Muslim Massacre of Gujrat , or Christian Genocide in the south or Present terrorism in Kasmir where 2000 graves have recently been found? If this list of Indian State terrorism is small we can also add here Miscreant Indian Army's terrorist wing and RSS terrorist Col. Prohit who is required in Samjhota Express case and several Blasts in India whose Blame Indian Govt. kept fixing on Pakistan. Reality is that this State is a terrorist State at its core and as long as this terrorism exists, there would be less progress with neighbors . Before Pointing fingers and asking as to why India and China are not equal in Pakistani people eyes , reason is very simple. It's Indian character and its terrorist role in the region . therefore before wondering as to why Every country in Asia prefers China over India? Asnwer is in very obvious. Change your habits or stay where you are. because we do not need India at all , not even for trade.
@Arindom: What makes you think a Hindu or any one from minorities can not become an actor in Pakistan ... There are already many actors and actresses working in our TV .. Our film industry is crap anyways ... May be you don't know because you don't live here but there is no discrimination against minorities in Pakistan .. Thousand of sikh come here every year for Baisakhi festival from India to Pakistan do you think we discriminate against them?. We already have had many Hindu cricket players in the past and Danish Kaneria is one of them who is still part of Test team ... Mr Justice Rana Bhagwandas started his law profession decades ago and went up on the ladder to the post of Justice of Supreme Court of Pakistan (only a dozen ppl make it to the Supreme Court) and was acting Chief Justice in 2007 too ... even after retirement he has been appointed in Federal Public Service Commission .. heading the interview panel for Public Civil Servants. Media only highlights those cases when some thing bad happens to individuals .. that doesn't mean the any one here is having daggers in the pockets running after minorities to force convert them. We have many beautiful churches/temples throughout the country including in the Northern parts where the situation has not been so peaceful due to geo politics.. Everyone prefer schools like Presentation Convent School even though run by the nuns, over any other private or public schools and colleges.
@Ozymandias: Which weapons systems are named after Hindu dieties? Agni - Means fire, akash - Sky, Prithvi - Earth. Do not see devil where none exist.
@Ozymandias: named after "Hindu" deities? Bro, u'r wrong all are named either after rivers (Narmada, Godavari, etc) or elements in Sanskrit ( Agni=fire, Prithvi=Land, Akash=Air), or simply Names in Sanskrit.
If you knew your 5000years Sub-Continental roots and heritage you would have recognised the names - unfortunately you are busy trying picking up a make-belief far-off Arab one which never really happened here...
Raj , you are right. Bush played cricket , a game with which the Americans are not familiar with . They play baseball , ice hockey.or the choras( sweepers) game basketball
There may not be any rift between the two Nations at present, however wait till similar incidents occur and China finds Pak DNA on the culpriys, than we will see the outcome !!! It won't be matter pf rift, but severe shift of position between their relationship. Anyway its bit lost on us, as to why there is so much shuttling by Pak Politicians to China?? As same can not be said fpr Chinese counterparts, and i don't recall them having offered anything of substance so far, except polite words about frienship, economic cooperation etc. So why waste Taxpayers monies on these type of visits, and those too so frequently????
@MAHFOOZ UR RAHMAN: Wrong President George W Bush also came to Pakistan and played cricket with boys of elite families..
"Don't believe anything till it is denied" - Yes Prime Minister
All that were posted in this regard was good but that was beside the point I meant to convey .Undoubtedly China is a great ally of Pakistan . Leaders meet at summits when important documents are signed . Government to Government work is usually done at diplomatical channels . Visits by Presidents Prime Ministers , Foreign Mnisters are rare unless some important talks are to be held For eg the last time the Canadian Foreign Minister, Joe Clarke, was in Islamabad was in connection with the signing of some loan documents . Mr Masood Khan , the Ambassador ,is a capable and very experienced diplomat . I fail to understand the importance of her visit after the President the Prime Minister had visited China this year. Since Independence , the country's items for exports are confide to handfull of things viz staples things rice , cotton, cotton textiles , surgical goods which inferior in quality , sports goods carpets
Height of double standards. Muslim citizens fighting Chinese atrocities are called "terrorists" by Pakistan and terrorists killing people in India are called by Pakistani establishment as "freedom fighters". This fact is very well ignored and debated back by Pakistanis, but how will lie from yourself about your double standard?? I rest my case :)
Mr Hairaan: What's wrong in shaking hands with men in front with media. Is not she your foreign minister?Don't tell me this is against Islam crap! Come and live in 21th. century, not in 14th.
@All Just see todays Tribune http://tribune.com.pk/story/239104/city-swept-in-new-terror-videos-reveal-assault-and-mutilation-by-target-killers/

We must eliminate terrorists working in the name of Islam, Self, Etnicity etc from our scociety.
@Akthar: What about your own muslims killing muslims? which place is safer; Mosque? GHQ? Market? Church? Hotels? ???? Now you will say its America. Israel and India; huh. Dont put blame on others, we ourself are responsible inlcuding Politicians, Army, Judges, officers, and AWAM. China is peacful country with a lot of facilitie and opportunities; why handful people in Kashgar do not follow the rule of law and get Muslims a bad name?
So the first thing any foreign Country asks Pakistani leadership is about Terrorism emanating from their soil. Pakistanis proudly claimed China was the exception, but not anymore.
But, I dont understand why so many right-wingers ignore the brutalities committed by China on Muslims in Xinjiang. If it were Kashmir, where there is freedom to voice opinion and hold rallies, they would have gone berserk! Has it something to do that China is expected to be Pakistan's sugar daddy?
Akthar : This is called "interfering in others' affairs" or simply "poking the nose" in civilised world. You are on your own to get your nose bloodied if you want. Mubeena Idris: Keep living in your delusions. Did u forget that when "My name is Khan" was screened in Mumbai, it was running houseful inspite of Shivsena's violent objections. Did u forget the state police protection for the movie halls. As long as you keep confusing criminals with religious bigots, there is no salvation. And for your information, criminals are in every country but terrorists are only in Pakistan. Ozymandias: We dont name any weapons on invaders',rapists' and looters' names. We name them using sanskrit words which mean fire, air etc. which also Hindus worship as a form of manifestation of nature. If we do the same using Muslim's holynames, dont u call that blasphemy.
@mubeena idris:
haha -- hundreds brutally tortured and killed in your own HOLIEST of month....but you still have time to point out some Indian crackpot protest at Shah Rukh Khan!!!
Ask yourself, can a HINDU ever become a HERO in Pakistan? Come to India and see Indian Secularism......
Why is she so fond of shaking hand with men in front of media. She should learn from Benazir Bhutto. Inever saw her do this during her priministership.
@MAHFOOZ UR RAHMAN: What about President Clinton? President Obama was going to come but our deeds stopped him.
What a grace! A good choice to create something pleasant out of everything so bad.
I think China is a really good ally of Pakistan . I was in China Since last 5 years and i think China is the only state where Green passport has some importance . and yes Why only U.S.A ,why not China , Russia , Afghanistan , India ...these are our neighbors, and except China Pakistan has never had friendly relation with any of its neighbors .
So did Bill Clinton . Clinton and Bush both came to Islamabad for a couple of en route India on the entreaties of Nawaz Sharif and Musharraf
@Akthar Do China treat muslims worst than we do here in Pakistan. We treat our Pakistani muslims brother worst than any other country. We handed over thousands innocent muslims to American during Musharraf regime, while Hina Rabbani was the part of his cabinet. Think before you say anything.
@mubeena idris: I know it reflexively bothers us whenever we read a comment left by an Indian. If I were you I would have thought twice by taken into account all the killings done in the Holy Month alone before making any comment. Madam, we badly need to fix our own home before pointing out other peoples faults.
@ najeeb: "China must consider American propaganda in this regard, America wants to harm china and Pakistan." Sir I cannot say anything about the US intentions about China since I am not a China expert I would leave it to the Chinese to sort that out.But being a Pakistani this much I know that there is not much left intact for the US to harm because we have already accomplished it for them. Unfortunately hurtful as it is, but we now stand among the most damaged or flawed nations on the Globe.
@Udaya Bose: I know, it's just a coincidence that all Indian weapon systems seem to be named after Hindu deities. The devil is in the details after all.
@mubeena idris: in karachi, muslims killing muslims in ramzan,
@mahfooz ur rehman: FYI Bush also visited Pakistan.
@Udaya Bose: india is a "HINDU" state mr udaya, practically if not constitutionally, considering the history n ongoing violence on ur fellow indian muslims. now u wil ask to highlight such events. wel let me start with india's most popular muslim personality, MR. SHAHRUKH KHAN, whos home was attacked right the next day of mumbai attacks n especilly when he passed a statement on IPL issue.
Thank you for the second part of the article ET. These leaders are left with no shame coming from deprived areas and wearing and carrying branded glasses and handbags worth millions. I wonder who in Sialkot thought Ms Awan is worth voting? I bet the same people who were involved in lynching?
Khar should definitely question the Chinese Govt regarding inhuman & barbaric treatment of innocent muslims in Uighur Province. She should directly tell the China that its inacceptable & Pakistan will not tolerate ill treatment of muslims anywhere in the world.
The second half of the article seems to be mocking Miss Khar. Anyone else realise? Lol
Where is her handbag? Is she carrying a Chinese made handbag?
@Abdull Lateef: Brave of you to suggest friendship with India. It can only do your country good. Also with reference to your 'non-Muslim' label may I point out that we have as many if not a few more Muslims in India than you have in Pakistan (if you include all the illegal migrants from Bangladesh who more or less live permanently in India and have often acquired voting rights). I wish Pakistanis would rid themselves of the false notion that India is a "Hindu" State.
Instead of depending Americans we should now strengthen our relations with the friends in need is a friend indeed (China), Russia and why not India. It has been proved that Americans never proved ot be good friends for Muslim, and if we have to depend non muslim, why not China, Russia or India.
First of all we should try to mobilize our sources and strengthen our energy, economic sectors through their help/assistance and rely upon their help. I feel there is no harm in it.
how is the second part of the article related to diplomatic ties between China and Pakistan. Funny!
China must consider american propaganda in this regard, america wants to harm china and Pakistan
The only American President who came to Pakistan was Eisenhower . Was is it so important for every Pakistani leader to pay homage to Washngton? I know the importance of USA as a superpower
Zardari visited France and England last year when the floods were raging. Following the American attack on Abbottabad , Gilani visited France and followed by a visit to England. Then Zardar visited Saudi Arabia followed by visit by Gilani . The President , the Prime Minister , the army chief and the DG ISI were in China this year .Why the visit of Hina Khar is considered important? Why the task was not accomplished then by the President etc? Cannot this work be done by the ambassadors? Are they redundant ? Who is going to foot the bill ?
