A suspected robber was lynched by a mob after he and his accomplices allegedly shot dead an employee of a pharmaceutical company on their resistance near Qasba Mor in Orangi Town on Wednesday.
A second suspect was critically wounded by gunshots fired by his own accomplices and succumbed to his injuries during treatment at hospital, while their third accomplice managed to escape.
According to details shared by SSP West Faisal Bashir Memon and SHO Orangi Town Waqar Ahmed, the slain citizen, identified as 30-year-old Syed Ammar Hasan, son of Alam Pervaiz, and resident of Labour Square, SITE Area, worked at a pharmaceutical company, located in New Karachi Industrial Area. deliver medicines at a doctor's clinic in Orangi Town.
He stopped his motorcycle outside Zubaida Hospital, near Qasba Mor, to check his bag. All of a sudden, two more motorcycles pulled up near him and three muggers got down. One of them walked up to Ammar and started snatching his valuables at gunpoint, they added.
However, Ammar put up resistance and the robber shot him at point blank range, killing him on the spot, the police officials said. The shooter also stumbled and fell on the ground near Ammar.
Seeing this, his accomplice got down and picked up the handgun, while their third accomplice who was on the motorcycle got panicky and opened fire, fatally wounding his own accomplice. As two of them tried to flee, local residents got hold of one of them, according to the police officials.
In the meantime, a mob gathered at the site and they started lynching the robber. They kicked, punched and hit the robber with whatever they could find to vent their anger at the ruthless killers who are on the prowl in the city. The mob beat him to death on the spot. The dead and the injured were shifted to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital. Police seized three handguns and one Honda 125 motorcycle used by the robbers.
They identified the lynched robber as Adam, a resident of Kalat district of Balochistan. The critically injured robber tricked the mob into believing that he belonged to a security agency to avoid their wrath, the police officials said, adding that the CCTV footage obtained from the area however confirmed that he was also an accomplice of the robbers.
Police claimed that the dead robbers belonged to a gang which is involved in snatching and stealing motorcycles from Karachi and selling them in Balochistan. They further said that verification of the dead robbers was being done through an app, which would also reveal their previous criminal record, if any. Police have also launched a manhunt for the third robber who escaped from the crime scene.
