KARACHI:

Sindh Minister for Education and Culture Syed Sardar Shah has said that the provincial government would set up language learning centers in four cities of the province to impart training to teachers of Sindhi and Urdu languages.

According to the Private Schools Act, Urdu and Sindhi must be taught by all elementary educational institutions while all private schools are also supposed to enroll 10 per cent poor children free of cost, he said while speaking at a program organized by the Directorate of Inspection and Registration of Private Institution on Tuesday.

Attendees at the program, titled ‘Are Urdu and Sindhi languages being taught properly in our educational institutions?’ included writers, journalists, education experts and teachers.

While speaking at the event, Sardar Shah said that ethnic hatred has deviated people from native languages while many see command in English language as a proof of competence which is also damaging vernaculars of the province. “This has not only damaged our languages but also the learning process,” he added.
