Rotary to help develop 20 smart villages

Flood victims to get accommodation, schools, and dispensaries

Rotary International will support the establishment of 20 smart villages in Sindh, complete with houses, schools, and dispensaries as part of post-flood rehabilitation efforts. Rotary International President (elect 23-24) Gordon R McInally has said that Rotary International will provide all possible support for the rehabilitation of flood victims in Pakistan.

He was addressing Meet the Press at the Karachi Press Club (KPC). Rotary International Director Muhammad Faiz Qadwai, Trustee Aziz Mamon, Rotary Institute Chair 2022 Eng Iqbal Qureshi, and District Governor Tahzeeb Kazmi were also present on the occasion.

Meet the Press was organised by the governing body of KPC and Chartered President of Rotary Club Karachi Heroes Shaikh Rashid Alam. Earlier, KPC Secretary Rizwan Bhatti delivered the welcome address.

On this occasion, the video of McInally's visit to Sindh and his meeting with the flood victims was also shown. Later, Qadwai said that Rotary International will support the establishment of 20 smart villages for flood victims in Sindh. Besides accommodation, the flood victims will be provided with economic activities, while schools and dispensaries will also be set up in these villages.

McInally said that whether there is an earthquake or flood disaster, Rotary has played a vital role in providing immediate assistance to the victims and in their rehabilitation. "We will not leave the flood victims alone."

He thanked the government, media, and civil society for their cooperation in the polio eradication program and hoped that Pakistan would soon achieve the status of a polio-free country.

Later, McInally was taken on a tour of KPC and briefed about the history and importance of the club. On this occasion, he was also presented with the KPC Memento while the charter president of Rotary Club Karachi Heroes Shaikh Rashid Alam and others presented bouquets.
