Injured PTI worker wants case against ICT police personnel

ISLAMABAD:

Former ambassador Umar Farooq Zahoor has filed a complaint at the Secretariat Police Station against half a dozen officials of the FIA and former adviser to the prime minister on accountability Mirza Shahzad Akbar, Sofia Mirza and former FIA DG Sanaullah Abbasi accusing them of misuse of powers and filing a fake case against him and using fake warrants of the Islamabad district court to arrest him.

The complainant said that Mirza Shahzad Akbar should be arrested by Interpol and brought back to the country and justice should be provided to him after investigating him.

The complainant, former ambassador Umar Farooq Zahoor, stated in the case filed through his lawyer that Shahzad Akbar, Sofia Mirza and Sanaullah Abbasi filed fake and false cases against him. He said that the accused filed the case against him in the FIA with the connivance of the officers concerned.

The plaintiff has further said that Shahzad Akbar did not disclose his ambassadorship from former prime minister Imran Khan because such action cannot be taken against the on-duty ambassador. He said that Shehzad Akbar and Sofia Mirza used their influence on FIA to issue his fake warrants.

He said that the warrants were proved fake in the court later and the court said that such warrants were never issued.

The complainant said the accused misused their position and authority. The accused should be arrested and justice should be provided, the complainant said.

PTI worker seeks FIR against police officials

Meanwhile, Pakistan Tehereek-e-Insaf activist Kamran Nazir, who was injured during a protest in Faizabad after the Toshakhana verdict against party chief Imarn Khan, filed an application at the Newtown Police Station, seeking an FIR against Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah, the Islamabad police chief and others for using teargas against party workers.

The complainant alleged that at the behest of Rana Sanaullah and the Islamabad police inspector-general, the Islamabad police resorted to violence against PTI workers in Faizabad and he and another activist Imran Kayani sustained injuries.

The complainant has demanded the FIR under terrorism laws. Sources said that the police have not yet registered a case on the plea of the PTI worker.

Meanwhile, Pakistan Tehreek e Insaaf (PTI) Senator Azam Swati was released late on Saturday night from Adiala jail after the court issued his bail orders.

A district and sessions court in Islamabad on Friday granted post-arrest bail to Azam Swati against a surety bond worth Rs1 million in a case related to controversial tweets. Special Judge Central Raja Asif Mehmood announced the verdict on Friday which was reserved a day earlier.

At one of the hearings, Special Prosecutor Raja Rizwan Abbasi had raised objections to the court’s jurisdiction stating that the case should be transferred to the session court.

The prosecutor had argued that the accused had given a hateful statement about the head of a state institution through his tweets. He said that the accused used a provoking way against state institutions at a public forum..

In his concluding arguments, Swati’s counsel Baber Awan had said that his client had used the right of freedom of expression through his tweet.
