Three doctors and as many other employees of Nishtar Hospital in Multan have been suspended along with the SHOs of two police stations have been suspended over negligence following an inquiry into the discovery of abandoned corpses at the health facility.
Punjab Chief Minister Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi chaired a meeting in which Health Minister Dr Yasmin Rashid presented the inquiry report.
In light of the inquiry report, the CM ordered suspension of Nishtar Hospital Anatomy Department Head Prof Maryam Ashraf, demonstrators Dr Abdul Wahab and Dr Seerat Abbas along with employees Ghulam Abbas, Muhammad Sajjad Nasir and Abdul Rauf.
SHO Umar Farooq of Shah Rukn-e-Aalam Colony and Saeed Sial of Seetal Mari Police Station were also removed from their posts.
The CM also issued directives for action against the negligent officials under the Punjab Employees Efficiency, Discipline and Accountability (PEEDA) Act.
"An inhuman act has been committed by throwing dead bodies on the rooftop and disrespect to corpses is intolerable," he said, according to an official statement.
Former federal minister Moonis Elahi, IG police, home affairs additional chief secretary and specialised healthcare and medical education special secretary were also present.
