PESHAWAR:

Around 155 policemen have lost their lives and 369 personnel have suffered injuries in terrorist attacks across Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P).

This was revealed during a high level security meeting. Official handout, however, did not specify the span of time during which these fatalities occurred.

The high-level meeting on the province’s law and order was held on Thursday under the chairmanship of Chief Secretary Dr Shahzad Khan Bangash.

The meeting discussed the law and order situation in all the districts of the province, especially Swat, the newly merged districts as well as Lakki Marwat and expressed satisfaction that the situation is by and large under control.

The officers concerned informed the forum in detail about the law and order situation of their districts.

They said that 155 personnel of law enforcement agencies have laid down their lives in the fight against outlaws. During the operations, the law enforcement agencies killed 162 terrorists, rounded up six of them and arrested 12 others in injured condition.

One suicide bomber was arrested alive and an investigation has been underway in the case.

Apart from this, 44 IEDs, 31 hand grenades, four land mines, seven rockets, nine mortars and 48 kilos of ammunition were recovered.

The meeting was further informed that apart from the miscreants, anti-social elements and criminals are also involved in disturbing the public order of the province.

It was decided in the meeting that anti-national and anti-social elements will not be allowed to disrupt peace in the province.

In this regard those trying to disturb public order will be dealt with an iron hand.

In this context, committees of civil administration, police, CTD and law enforcement, military and intelligence agencies were formed at the district level to keep a close watch on the situation.

These committees will carry out joint operations wherever necessary.

The district committees were instructed to bring along the political and non-political leaders and peace-loving elders of the area to counter the negative propaganda of the anti-social elements and not to allow them to succeed in their nefarious designs.

It was reiterated in the meeting that the government and the civil-military leadership are on the same page and the safety of people’s lives and property will be ensured by utilizing all resources.

The meeting expressed its resolve that maintaining law and order and eradicating anti-national and anti-social elements is the first priority of the government.

On this occasion, the people were asked to support the government machinery and not fall for propaganda because the maintenance of public order is the joint responsibility of the government and the general public.

The meeting was attended by additional chief secretary, secretary home, inspector general of police, high-ups from 11 Corps, divisional commissioners, regional police officers and senior officers of intelligence agencies.
