The University of Punjab completed its 140 years of establishment on Friday.
Formally established on October 14, 1882, the University of Punjab is the oldest university of the subcontinent which has produced two Nobel laureates and provided human resource in all sections of society.
The University of Punjab has the largest alumni body spread all over the world. On its 140th anniversary, deans of various faculties, heads of departments, employees and students called on the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Niaz Ahmad Akhtar, at his office to congratulate him.
The teachers and other staff lauded the role of Prof. Niaz Ahmad Akhtar for uplifting the international ranking of the university and restructuring the institution in order to meet the demands of the next 50 years.
They said that in 2018, when Dr. Akhtar had assumed the charge of the vice chancellor, the university had 13 faculties, 10 constituent colleges and 73 departments/ centres/institutes which were not adequate for the present educational needs.
Keeping in view the needs of the country for the next fifty years, they said, Dr. Akhtar embarked on the task of restructuring all the faculties and departments to meet the modern educational and research needs.
