Punjab seeks to boost revenue generation
Punjab Chief Minister Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi has ordered concrete steps for achieving the target of increasing the provincial financial resources through revenue generation so that people can be provided more facilities.
He was chairing a meeting in which progress on the provincial Annual Development Programme (ADP) and financial matters were reviewed in detail. Punjab Finance Minister Mohsin Leghari, former federal minister Moonis Elahi, the chief secretary, secretaries of finance, planning and development, communications and works and other officials attended the meeting.
The chief minister directed the participants to achieve the target fixed for increasing provincial resources. He said steps should be taken in this regard so that people could be provided more facilities with the additional revenue generated.
The CM also sought a comprehensive plan for reforms in the Punjab pension fund. The best utilisation of the fund should be ensured for payment of pensions, he added. The officials concerned were instructed to provide a comprehensive plan next week.
The chief minister called for reviewing a proposal to issue 'Punjab bonds'.
A committee was constituted to formulate recommendations with regard to issuance of the bonds and present its proposals.
