Three held for ‘violating’ ECP code of conduct

MULTAN:

Police on a notice of the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) arrested three people who allegedly indulged in firing in the air during a corner meeting held in connection with the by-elections in PP-209.

District Monitoring Officer for PP-209, Khanewal-VII, Khalid Mehmood, had written letters to a candidate, Faisal Jan Niazi, and to the District Police Officer (DPO), Imran Jaleel Ghalzai, about the alleged incident, said a provincial spokesperson for the ECP, Huda Ali Gohar.

She said that the DMO had directed the DPO to register an FIR against the accused and arrest them.

Chab Kalan police apprehended one Mohsin Sahil and two unidentified accused under Sections 337H(2), 285 and 286 of the Pakistan Penal Code and allegedly recovered weapons from their possession, she said.

The spokesperson quoted the Punjab Election Commissioner, Saeed Gul, as saying that strict action would be initiated against all those who violated the ECP code of conduct and created a law and order situation.
