Saif Ali Khan has opened up about his annoyance with those trying to fit him inside a box so he could be categorised as either a TV, film or an OTT actor. And while sharing an anecdote about the same, Saif recollected an invaluable advice Shah Rukh Khan once gave him, which has helped him stay relevant.

The actor initially unveiled that when he took on the Netflix web series Sacred Games, his wife and actor Kareena Kapoor Khan was told he’d only be doing TV now. Being in the show business for over three decades, Saif maintained that on the contrary, keeping an open mind about platforms and genres has helped him hold his ground. And he has not worked in any TV shows but certainly made himself known in the OTT realm.

After receiving widespread appreciation for the show, Saif reprised his role in the second season of Sacred Games and eventually made his way to Ali Abbas Zafar's 2021 political thriller Tandav. Saif essayed the role of a cop in the prior while playing a politician in the latter.

As per Hindustan Times, in an interview with Dainik Bhaskar, Saif said, “Shah Rukh Khan often tells me that people are not old, their thinking turns old. You can stay relevant as a person if you keep your thoughts new and updated. For example, when I accepted Sacred Games, someone told my wife 'Oh, Saif will only do TV now'. Sacred Games is not even a TV show, it was for an OTT platform.”

"So, I have made sure not to have such a mind set and that is the approach that has helped me stay relevant," Saif added.

Saif is currently starring in the Hindi remake of R Madhavan-starrer Tamil film Vikram Vedha that released on Friday. The film also stars Hrithik Roshan. The original, as well as the Hindi remake films, are directed by Pushkar and Gayatri. The new Hindi film also features Radhika Apte as Saif's lawyer wife while Saif steps into the shoes of R Madhavan who played a cop in the original film. Hrithik essays the role that Vijay Sethupathi did in the original.
