KARACHI:

Rumors surfaced in the political circle that the Local Government (LG) elections scheduled on October 23 will further be delayed due to 'logistic' and 'security' reasons.

Sources said that the provincial government of Sindh was not willing for the local body elections as it was more focused on the flood relief and rehabilitation process.

The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) officials confirmed that they have not received any formal application from the government as yet.

On the other hand, the political parties, including Pakistan Peoples Party, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf, Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P), Jamaat-e-Islami (JI), Pak Sarzameen Party (PSP) and others have not started their political meetings.

It was also learnt that due to lack of interest in electioneering from the youth during the T20 tournaments, the political activities will remain lackluster.

Meanwhile, the provincial government which was already focused on the flood related activities, will be in difficult situation if it diverts all efforts on the LG polls, including providing security and logistic support to the ECP.
