The Sindh government has established a tent village on the Malir Development Authority (MDA) land for flood victims belonging to different districts of Sindh.
While talking to The Express Tribune, Malir Deputy Commissioner Irfan Salam said that so far 1,300 tents have been erected at the tent village in the Malir Area near the Sassi Toll Plaza on National Highway.
The temporary shelter spread over 100 acres has a capacity for 3,000 tents.
Salman said that each tent will house a family, and more tents will be set up if necessary.
The flood victims will be shifted to the tent village in a few days, Salam said.
Instead of lying on the roads, they will have a tent for shelter, electricity, water, washrooms, and a sanitation system in the temporary village, the DC said.
The Sindh government has assigned Dawat-e-Islami the responsibility to provide food to the flood victims, while a camp office, police post, and temporary school are being established.
According to the Sindh government, the flood victims will remain in the temporary village until the restoration works in their native areas are completed.
When the water drainage work is completed in the affected locations, the victims of floods will be shifted to their native areas through transportation.
He said that welfare organisations, along with the Sindh government, are working to help flood victims. Officials said that tents which were set up in the shelter would be beneficial even in winter.
More than 16,000 people are housed in 32 relief camps for flood victims in different areas of government schools in Karachi until they are moved to the tent village.
