Governor thanks US envoy for aid for flood victims

US Ambassador Donald Blome called on Governor Punjab Muhammad Balighur Rehman at the Governor House on Tuesday. American Consul General William Makaneole was also present on this occasion.

The flood situation and promotion of bilateral trade were discussed in the meeting.

Speaking on this occasion, Punjab Governor Muhammad Balighur Rehman said Pakistan valued the long-standing relations with the United States. He said the US cooperation with Pakistan in various fields is appreciable, especially in the fields of education, health and trade.

He also talked to the US envoy about increasing Fulbright and other scholarships for Pakistani students.

He said many Pakistani students are pursuing higher education in the USA on Fulbright scholarships.

The governor said Pakistan was currently going through difficult times due to floods. The floods have caused widespread destruction in Pakistan, adding that the international community should provide humanitarian assistance to the flood victims in this difficult time.

The governor thanked the United States for the aid for the flood victims.

“The United States should give preferential facilities to the Pakistani industry on the pattern of GSP plus to promote bilateral trade,” he suggested.

The envoy welcomed the proposal.

On this occasion, American Ambassador Donald Blome said that bilateral cooperation will be further promoted in various fields including education, health and trade.

After the meeting, US ambassador also made a short visit to the historic building of the Governor House.
