KARACHI:

While Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) like other political and social groups is voicing concern over the spike in street crime, a JI activist Affan Owais, 30, was shot dead by unidentified bike-riding assailants in what seems to be a botched robbery incident.

Bahudurabad police station officials, quoting eyewitnesses said that two men riding a bike intercepted Affan when he was about to sit in his car. The person riding pillion shot Affan when he resisted the robbery bid.

Police, however, said it was premature to say if it was a botched robbery or planned murdered.

According to the spokesperson of Karachi police, Affan, a resident of Falcon Complex, Baloch Colony, ran a plastic goods business and had gotten married only two months ago.

The crime scene unit of police recovered a shell of a 9mm pistol from the spot, while the Bahadurabad police station officials questioned and identified eyewitnesses besides locating the CCTV cameras in the area.

According to eyewitnesses, Affan was about to sit in his car when two men riding a bike came close and shot him dead on putting up resistance during the robbery.

According to the police, it is too early to say whether the incident is a robbery or a personal grudge.
