Sindh Information Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon has called for joint efforts to rescue and rehabilitate millions of people affected by the recent rains and floods to prevent a humanitarian catastrophe in the country.
The minister also called upon non-governmental organisations (NGOs), philanthropists, welfare organisations, and voluntary service providers to coordinate with the Emergency Operation Centre of PDMA, according to a press statement issued on Saturday.
He said that the Centre has been established so that relief operations are not limited to certain areas and relief could also reach the flood-stricken people in all remote areas of the province.
Philanthropists and welfare organisations can help the victims on their own and in the way that satisfies them, he said, adding that the Centre will only connect them through the district administrations for guidance and security, wherever required.
About the flood situation, Memon said a gradual decrease in the water flow in the Indus River is being recorded.
