ISLAMABAD:

Aviation Minister Khawaja Saad Rafique on Friday reviewed the development plans of the aviation department and approved the project to quip Lahore and Karachi airports with advanced communications systems.

During a meeting headed by the federal minister, it was informed that the weather system at the Lahore airport was also being improved for more reliable forecasts.

Meanwhile, an expansion project of Sukkur Airport was also approved.

Instructions were issued to take steps to establish a cargo village facility at the Karachi airport.

The federal minister also directed that the Airport Security Force and Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) should jointly prepare a coordinated action plan for further discussions regarding the latest security framework at airports.

“For effective bird control at Lahore airports, CAA should collaborate with Pakistan Air Force (PAF) to observe the current practice across the world and then formulate a joint action plan,” Rafique directed.

Furthermore, the meeting also approved the overhauling of fire fighting vehicles at airports and the purchase of new vehicles for New Gwadar International Airport.

The projects included in the annual development program for the new international airport under construction in Gwadar should be completed as soon as possible, he instructed.
