Uplift projects inaugurated in Jhelum

Punjab Minister for Local Government and Community Development Mian Mahmood-ul-Rashid on Friday laid the foundation stone of development projects worth Rs2.10 billion under the Punjab Cities Programme (PCP) in Jhelum.

The minister said that the PCP had been started with the support of the World Bank for the development of small cities. He said that the newly inaugurated project would improve the sanitation system of Jhelum city to a great extent. He said that sanitation and supply of clean drinking water were the priority of the Punjab government.

Rashid said that a treatment plant would be established which would ensure that sewage does not get mixed into the river.

He said that thousands of acres of land would be irrigated through the Jalalpur irrigation project.

Former federal minister Fawad Chaudhry said that the Jalalpur irrigation mega project would help irrigate 70,000 acres of land.
