ISTANBUL:

Speaker of the Saudi Shura Council, Abdullah bin Muhammad Al-Sheikh, has called on regional rival Iran to cooperate and adhere to the principle of non-interference in the affairs of other countries.

This came during a meeting of the heads of the Shura Councils of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) in the Omani capital, Muscat, according to Saudi media.

"The kingdom calls on Iran, as a neighbour whose people we have religious and cultural ties with, to cooperate with the countries of the region by adhering to the principles of international legitimacy," he said.

He added that Riyadh calls on Tehran “not to interfere in the domestic affairs of other countries, to cooperate with the International Atomic Energy Agency, and to fulfil its obligations in this regard."

Saudi Arabia and Iran severed their diplomatic relations in 2016 following an attack on the Saudi Embassy in Tehran after Shia cleric Nimr al-Nimr was executed by Saudi authorities.

Their relationship further nosedived after Iran in September 2016 accused Riyadh of deliberately causing the death of around 400 Iranian pilgrims in a 2015 stampede in the Muslim holy city of Makkah.

The two sides have since been engaged in a strong regional rivalry, often accusing each other of waging a proxy war for regional influence.

test | 2 years ago | Reply Ah a tale of oil and regional dominance between two muslim brother countries. It s all about oil and dollars. Gulf established relations with israel and in return US blacklisted Iran so that Iran will not be able to sell their oil to the world especially US and EU and China. This divide among the big brothers gave US a clue to benefit from the rivalry of two brothers and gave them a reason to start war in the middle east which destroyed Syria Iraq Libya and Palestine. And then same zionist lobby started the bullshit war in Afghanistan to destabilize the region along with neighboring countries and then both these brothers after destroying much of the middle east found an other place Yemen. And if there is was no oil then they would have definitely go to war with israel because according to gulf countries they are good with israel untill dollar is coming to gulf otherwise according to them israel will be no more when dollars will no be more. And Iran would have too done the same thing which Saudis did and that was to get good with israel in return for dollars and to sell their oil to world. In short its all about oil and dollars but the result is the destruction of middle east and a negative propaganda from already destabilized muslim world where gulf countries left no other muslim brother equal to them when it comes to oil monopoly and the biggest fallout is that muslim countries are one of the least developing countries in the world. There are some exceptions in Malaysia Turkey Gulf etc but overall the muslim world suffer so badly that cannot be described into words. In short the race of dollars destroyed the muslim world and that is the headline which we should cover.
