Prisoner allegedly stripped, tortured in jail

Sources said that the prisoner was seriously injured as a result of alleged torture by the jail staff

A 21-year-old inmate was allegedly stripped and subjected to torture in Central Jail Adiala Rawalpindi. While taking notice of the incident, IG Prisons has sought a report from the prison administration.

Sources said that the prisoner named Shahab Hussain was seriously injured as a result of alleged torture by the jail staff. Imtiaz Bibi, the mother of the prisoner, arrested in an anti-terrorism case, filed a petition in the Islamabad High Court stating that on September 6, the superintendent and other staff of the jail stripped her son and subjected him to torture and broke his finger.

She said that the prisoner has also filed a plea in the anti-terrorism court against the torture inflicted on him in the jail. She said that on September 9, the prison staff again subjected her son to torture after he filed a complaint in court. His mother alleged that the jail staff demanded a bribe of Rs5,000 form Shahab. She said that the prisoner went on a hunger strike on September 9 and he has become extremely weak and was fighting for surviaval.

After the court took up the case for hearing, IG prisons Punjab has sought a report from the prison administration within 24 hours.
