Mystery of severed head found in July yet to be resolved
The puzzle of the police having found a head and a headless body in separate areas and separate days in July could not have been resolved yet, and the identity of the victim, a young man, could not be ascertained.
Nobody has yet come forward to report to the police about any missing relative, and the biggest challenge for the police is that they haven’t got a clue about the identity of the victim.
The young man’s severed head was found on the Commissioner’s Road within the limits of the Civil Line Police Station.
Fear had permeated the area as soon as the news about the finding of the severed head reached people.
Little did the people know then that they would get another shocking news that would disturb them no less.
Before the end of the month, a beheaded body was found on the roof of a showroom on Sialkot Road.
According to the police, both parts belonged to the same person.
SSP Nasir Sial said that police tried to secure NADRA’s help in a bid to find the identity of the victim but to no avail. They also posted a picture of the severed head on the social media in anticipation of getting a clue, but that attempt, too, failed.
He said that police wanted to nab those responsible for this heinous crime, but they could only do so when they manage to identify the victim.
SSP Nasir Sial said that letters, along with a picture of the severed head, had been sent to the IGs of the four provinces.
The SSP said that his department had been working nonstop for the last two months to get to the bottom of this case.
He said that as soon as the victim’s identity was ascertained, police would get the murderers wherever they happened to be hiding.
As far as the background of the incident is concerned, two policemen had been dispatched on an out-of-the-ordinary assignment in Gujranwala on July 16.
Their task was to verify the information police had gotten from a citizen who called from the Commissioner’s Road, telling the Civil Line Police Station that a human being’s severed head had been spotted in a heap of garbage near Kacha Fatomand Road Chawk.
The two policemen found nothing and wondered if the call received from the citizen was a hoax.
However, shopkeepers in the area confirmed that the severed head had really been there.
So if it was there then where had it disappeared into, wondered the baffled policemen and asked their police station to dispatch a full-fledged team.
The team arrived under a heavy spell of rain when the Commissioner’s Road looked like a river.
Bracing the inclement weather, a search operation was launched under the supervision of the Superintendent of Police, Usman Tipu, and the Station House Officer, Mudassir Butt.
Police ultimately found the severed head in a heap of garbage.
