Veteran actor Resham had a quite rough week after she “absent-mindedly” threw plastic wrappers alongside food for the marine life in the water and had it filmed. The harsh backlash turned out to be a “steep learning curve” for the actor. After two formal apologies, it seems like the actor wants to give back with more than just words—-after all actions speak louder than words.
On Monday, the Naagin actor took to Instagram with another video that sees her clad in a white shalwar kurta picking up trash from the streets. “The last few days have been a steep learning curve for me and I want to thank everyone, especially my well-wishers, who sought to guide me and correct me, using kindness and love, instead of condemnation for the sake of personal clout,” her caption began with some context behind what informed her “litter cleaning initiative.”
She further added how she hopes her actions will soothe her fans. “Pakistan is our home and it is right that we should keep it clean. So what better way to demonstrate this than through an example? I took part in a litter cleaning initiative which I hope will go some way to soothing any hurt that I may have inadvertently caused you and our people. Let’s make Pakistan cleaner and kinder. Sending you all my warmest wishes. This is a new beginning for me and for us all.”
Actor Armeena Khan, who called Resham out initially but then campaigned for others to accept her heartfelt apology, appreciated her litter cleaning initiative. “Brilliant Resham ji. Good on you,” she wrote.
The news came five days after Resham’s formal apology which didn’t use “women being gang raped” and other justifications to cover what she did. Taking to her Instagram on Wednesday, the actor said in a clip, “First of all, please accept my apology because what happened shouldn’t have happened. It happened because of my carelessness and was not intentional. For that, I apologise to the entire nation.”
She went on to clarify, “I am against littering, polluting, and agree that keeping our country clean is our responsibility. I’m also human and every human makes mistakes, this was mine.” Going on to dub it the “biggest mistake” of her career, Resham vowed that she would ensure nothing similar ever transpires again. She concluded her video with an apology from the “bottom of my heart.”
