Chakwal police say truck overturns due break failure

CHAKWAL:

At least four people, including two children, were killed and eight others sustained serious injuries when a truck overturned after its brakes failed on the motorway in Chakwal on Sunday.

According to Rescue 1122, the accident took place in the disaster-prone Salt Range of the motorway in Chakwal when a family was travelling to Gojra Mandi from Kaliyam Sharif to meet their relatives in their truck after buying and selling animals.

On their way, the truck overturned due to the failure of the brakes which resulted in the death of four people on the spot, leaving three others seriously injured. The rescue team rushed to the site after receiving the information and provided first aid to the injured.

Later, they shifted the injured to Tehsil Headquarters Hospital (THQ) Kallar Kahar for further treatment. Moreover, the bodies were also transferred to the THQ hospital by the motorway police.

The victims were identified as 40-year-old Imran Siddiqui, nine-year-old Maan Ali, Pappo and Abdul Qadir Pappo. They were residents of Rawalpindi. The condition of three victims is stated to be critical.

Traffic on the affected lane on Motorway remained closed because of the accident which was later cleared by Motorway police after removing the goods and truck from the road.

Meanwhile, the Wah Cantonment Police on Sunday intercepted a gang of robbers and arrested four of their members while recovering valuables and weapons utilised in the different crimes.

Sub Divisional Police (DSP) Officer Malik Muhammad Arif told reporters that during a crackdown launched against illicit elements, Wah Cantt police busted "Umer gang" and arrested four of their members, identified as Hazrat Khan, Jehanzaib, Ahsan, and ring leader Umer.

From the arrest, police retrieved loot and weapons allegedly utilised in the gang's various crimes.

In a separate incident, the Wah Saddar Police on Sunday launched a crackdown against drug peddlers and arrested three drug sellers including a female.
