Half-sleeves, PT banned in schools as dengue cases rise in Karachi

Commissioner also suspends assembly in all educational institutions as SOP from Monday till next month

The assembly and physical training (PT) sessions will remain suspended in all schools and other educational institutions in Karachi from Monday till the next month. Karachi Commissioner has issued an SOP for schools and other educational institutions after the increase in dengue cases, which will apply to all public and private schools and educational institutions.

According to commissioner Karachi, all students will wear full sleeve shirts. Schools will be required to conduct dengue and malaria sprays regularly. At the same time, authorities instructed schools to take special care of water drainage and sanitation on the premises. All schools will also conduct awareness sessions on malaria and dengue.

Another 349 people contracted the dengue virus in Karachi during the last 24 hours as per the official data.

The highest number of 109 cases was reported from Korangi district, followed by 74 in East district, 70 in Central district, 38 in Malir District, 33 in South district. Meanwhile, 18 people got infected by the vector-borne disease in Kemari District and seven in the West district.

More than 5,000 people were infected by the dengue virus cases in Karachi this year and 11 patients died of the disease.
