RAWALPINDI:

Preparations have been completed to start work on a new tehsil complex building in Rawalpindi.

The complex is being built in place of the old tehsil office on Saddar Road Rawalpindi established in 1830. The three-storey complex being constructed over 14 kanals will cost Rs160 million, which will have a record room office and other offices. A new state-of-the-art record room will be built to cater to the needs of the next 100 years. The complex will have a one-window operation, a facility centre and an air-conditioned waiting room for the citizens. Work on the project will start in October.

The mini tehsil complex will also have offices for patwaris, girdawars and constables etc. British, Hindus and Sikhs assistant commissioners and tehsildars used to sit in the current office. This Mughal-style building will be demolished next month after 192 years.
