Landslide hits Murree expressway
A large number of tourists had to face problems as a landslide hit the Tower 20-kilometre point on the Murree Expressway.
Soon after the incident, Motorway police immediately reached the spot and partially restored the traffic with the help of highway authorities. No casualties were reported in the incident.
According to the Motorway Police, many tourists travelled to Murree over the weekend. At the same time, the Murree Expressway was abruptly closed due to a landslide. When tourists reported the landslide, field police officers rushed to the spot and rerouted traffic to a safe location.
Moreover, field officers called heavy machinery to the site. The National Highway Authority (NHA) staff used heavy machinery to shift the massive rocks from the landslide-affected area to one side, and traffic was partially restored. The Motorway Police officials said that one lane of the Murree Expressway is now closed owing to landslides. When the traffic load is lessened, the road lane will be fully restored, and a protective wall will be constructed in the affected area with the help of the local authorities to prevent such accidents.
Motorway Police advised tourists at the Murree Expressway Toll Plaza to drive cautiously to avoid a major accident.
