Sindh High Court (SHC) Circuit Bench on Friday stopped the government from deducting salaries of 23 petitioners on account of flood relief.
The bench heard a petition filed against a notification issued to deduct five-day salary for Sindh Flood Relief Fund. The court barred the provincial authorities from deduction of the salaries of 22 petitioners belonging to College Education Department Sindh until the next hearing.
The court issued notices to Sindh chief secretary, secretary finance, secretary education, accountant general, and additional advocate general to submit replies and adjourned the hearing till October 4.
A total of 23 associate professors, assistant professors and lecturers, including Sindh Professors and Lecturers Association (SPLA) Hyderabad Region President Associate Professor Muhammad Anwar Ali, Regional General Secretary Asst Prof Sheikh Asif Iqbal, filed a joint constitutional petition in this regard. The petition stated that Sindh chief secretary has issued a notification to deduct five-day salary of petitioners without their consent for the flood relief fund.
The petition said that the decision is against the Constitution of Pakistan and is a violation of fundamental human rights.
