Biometric verification mandatory for flood fund disbursement

Ehsaas Programme Chairperson Dr Sania Nishtar has linked the disbursement of flood relief funds to flood victims through biometric registration and computerized national identity card (CNIC).

Presiding over a meeting to review relief activities on Wednesday, she said initially the funds of Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) governments will be disbursed through Bank of Punjab and Bank of Khyber. However, services of other banks could be acquired at later stage if need arises, she added.

The meeting deliberated upon the registration and funds disbursement mechanism of funds to flood victims in a transparent manner. She said biometric registration of beneficiaries is mandatory for disbursement of funds.

She highlighted that the PTI chairman had started the donation collection drive through a telethon and in few hours collected Rs5 billion. He had given the responsibility to transparently distribute these donations to flood affectees through a committee under her leadership, she indicated.
