Teacher gets death sentence, 10-year imprisonment
A district and sessions court in Rawalpindi on Tuesday awarded a death sentence to a teacher after he was found guilty of attempted rape and murder of a 12-year-old girl, who happened to be his student.
Additional District and Sessions Judge Muhammad Afzal Majuka announced the judgment after a trial of over six months. The 12-year-old, Bareera Zahid, was stabbed to death on Marble factor Road within the limits of Rata Amral Police Station
on February 14, this year.
The convict was later arrested by police with the knife used in the murder. According to police, the 21-year-old teacher named Adil from Abbottabad used to visit the victim’s house to teach her the Holy Quran.
The girl’s parents had barred the convict from teaching their daughter after he attempted to sexu-ally harass her.
Later, the parents admitted their victim daughter to a nearby tuition centre, where Adil attacked her and stabbed her with a knife in the neck, fatally injuring her.
The seventh grader died in the hospital due to excessive bleeding. The court also slapped a fine of Rs500,000 on the convict for brutally murdering the girl.
The convict was also sentenced to 10-year rigorous im-prisonment with a fine of Rs100,000 for the offence of carrying a knife to the tuition centre with the intent of killing the student.
Additionally, the convict will undergo a jail term for six more months if he failed to pay the fine.The judge ruled that the culprit has committed a heinous crime and deserved no mercy.
The father of the deceased lodged a complaint with the Ratta Amral police stating that Adil attempted to sexually assault Bareera but she thwarted it by making noise. After that, he started sending his daughter to a tuition centre run by a female teacher.
The complainant had said that Adil forcefully entered the tuition centre and he attacked and fatally stabbed his daughter, who died in the hospital due to excessive bleeding.
The police had submitted a postmortem report of the victim and all related evidence to the court. The convict was shifted to Adiala jail after the death sentence.
