KARACHI:

Pak Sarzameen Party (PSP) Chairman Syed Mustafa Kamal said that without an effective local government system, the flood-induced situation will get worse in future as cold and hunger will claim more lives than lives lost in floods.

He said that the ground reality can only be assessed by representatives of local governments, a system which does not exist in Sindh for the past two years. 90 per cent of the funds released for relief operations will be embezzled, with impunity.

He expressed these views while addressing a press conference at Pakistan House. Party President Anis Kaim Khani and other members of the Central Executive Committee and National Council were also present on this occasion.

"On the pretext of accommodating flood victims at temporary shelter houses in Karachi, the powerful mafia has started grabbing the lands. Law enforcement agencies should take immediate notice otherwise the situation could turn out to out of control.”
