RAWALPINDI:

Torrential rains resulted in a tree falling on the busy road connecting Lower Topa to Jhikagali in Murree, causing traffic to back up for a while.

Police said that the intensity of the rains, falling intermittently over the last few days and gathering strength on Thursday, cause a tree to fall over, damaging a loading van in the process.

The City Traffic Police (CTP) and Highways department managed to move the fallen tree and clear the way for traffic.

Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) Naveed Irshad said that the force on ground had handled the traffic situation well by diverting it from the blocked road while the tree was being shifted.

Thereafter, the traffic on the Lower Topa-Jhikagali road resumed its usual pace.

The official further said that while all routes going to and from Murree are open, motorists are advised to exercise caution while driving as the current weather is susceptible to landslides.

A vehicle lifter and crane are on standby to help in any untoward incident as long as the monsoon rains persist, he added.
