KARACHI:

A woman under arrest for the murder of her husband, a textile and garments exporter, told the police during interrogation that she had tried to kill her husband two years ago, but he survived.

"I had mixed snake venom in Rizwan Surya's dinner, but as he fell on the floor convulsing in pain after taking a few morsels, his brother came in, hauled him up, and rushed him to a hospital," Noreen Surya told the police in her confessional statement.

Officials of Bahadurabad police station investigating the high-profile murder of Rizwan Surya said the suspects have made startling revelations during interrogation. According to police, the wife of famous businessman Rizwan Surya had earlier tried to kill her husband two years ago by mixing snake poison in his food. However, Surya survived after undergoing treatment at a private hospital.

Noreen, the widow of the deceased, has given a statement that she belongs to Gujranwala. A long time ago, she developed an illicit relationship with her cousin Mohsin, which escalated to such an extent that even her husband Rizwan became suspicious. Three years ago, Rizwan banned Mohsin from coming to his house, which led to disagreements and bitterness between the two.

The two frequently had arguments over the issue, prompting Noreen to kill her husband. She took help from her brother Imran in this regard, who delivered her snake venom from Gujranwala bought at a price of Rs20,000.

She then mixed the poison in Rizwan's food. The poison severely affected Rizwan and he was rushed by his brother to a private hospital. He underwent treatment for a month and survived.

The accused further admitted that a month ago she told her brother Imran Gulfam that her husband had a bad character and she wanted to kill him.

She called her brother and cousin Sajjad from Gujranwala to Karachi and met the two at a private hospital established in New Town on July 26 to finalize a plan for Rizwan's murder. Under the plan, she pretended to go to her relative's house on the afternoon of July 26 after turning off the CCTV cameras of the house. According to the plan, Imran and Sajjad overpowered Rizwan, who was alone in the house, tied him with ropes, and stabbed him to death.

The brother of the accused, Imran Gulfam, confessed before the police that her sister incited him to murder Rizwan by fabricating false stories.

It is to be recalled that Noreen, his brother Imran and cousin Mohsin have been arrested while the accused Sajjad is still absconding for which raids are being conducted by the police.
