PDMA placed on high alert

Floods feared in Lahore, Rawalpindi, Multan and Gujranwala

LAHORE:

Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) Director General Faisal Farid directed line departments to remain vigilant of rains across the province from August 24 to 26.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, he said the meteorological department predicted rains in various areas, with a risk of flooding in low-lying areas in Lahore, Rawalpindi, Multan and Gujranwala. There is also a risk of flooding in local rivers and landslides in Murree due to heavy rains.

All relevant district administrations were tasked to remain alert to deal with any emergency situation. The DG said that water level and flow in the Ravi and Chenab rivers is normal, while there is a low-level flood in the Indus River at Taunsa. However, there is a risk of high-level flood, for which necessary arrangements have been completed.

The PDMA DG added that due to heavy rain, water coming from the mountains of DG Khan may cause flood, which has to be dealt with.
