LAHORE:

Pakistan Water and Power Development Authority (Wapda) Chairman Lt Gen (Retd) Sajjad Ghani on Monday announced that it would be the foremost priority to complete the under-construction projects as per their schedule and initiate new projects to cope with the increasing requirement of water and electricity in the country. He stated this at the end of a week-long daily briefing sessions on the under-construction Wapda projects which included Mohmand Dam, Diamer-Bhasha Dam and Dasu hydropower project. Underlining the significance of ongoing projects, Ghani said the completion of 10 Wapda projects were linked with economic stability and social uplift as those schemes would add 11.7 million acre feet (MAF) to the water storage capacity and 11,300 megawatts of low-cost, clean and green hydel electricity to the national grid. “These projects are scheduled to be completed between 2022 and 2029 in a phased manner. Hence, their completion is a huge challenge,” he said. “But there lies an opportunity in these challenges.”
