HEC, Education Ministry funding education TV channels for students residing in remote regions

ISLAMABAD:

Allama Iqbal Open University (AIOU) in collaboration with the Ministry of Federal Education and Professional Training, is launching four education TV channels with an aim to facilitate students residing in remote regions of the country and to ensure that they stay informed and updated regarding ongoing educational activities.

In this regard, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed which includes significant upgradation of facilities and capacities at AIOU to set up and operate 4 satellite TV channels including earth station up-linking equipment and playout server, upgrading studios & post-production facilities, additional personnel, and technical support.

This MoU was signed by the Additional Secretary of the Federal Education Ministry, Waseem Ajmal Chaudhary, and Raja Umer Younis from the AIOU Registrar yesterday.

The Minister of Federal Education and Professional Training, Rana Tanvir said that the task of providing educational facilities to remote areas has been given to Allama Iqbal Open University. The Federal Education Ministry and Higher Education Commission (HEC) will financially support Allama Iqbal Open University by providing them Rs570 million.

The Additional Secretary of Federal Education said that it will take five to six months to complete this project.
