MQM-London workers detained for protest outside KPC

A case was registered against 17 persons in the Artillery Maidan police station

KARACHI:

A small group of defunct Muttahida Qaumi Movement-London workers staged a protest demonstration outside the Karachi Press Club in connection with the Independence Day.

A police party was apparently waiting for just the right time and as soon as the MQM-L workers out the party flag and pictures of the founder of their party, cops swooped down and hauled away some people including women and elderly.

Officials of the Artillery Maidan police station said that all detained party workers were shifted to the nearest police station, but after a while, the women and senior citizens were released.

A case was registered against 17 persons in the Artillery Maidan police station.

Separately, a clash took place between the workers of two political parties in the area of Alfalah.

As per details, one of the political party members opened fire in the air, which caused stampedes on the spot. However, no injury was reported.

According to the SP Shah Faisal Colony Wajahat Hussain, different events for Independence Day celebrations were being organised by various political parties in the area. He said that as the rally of a party was passing near the camp of the other party when the fight took place.

Meanwhile, one of the party workers fired in the air during the clash. The heavy contingent of police reached the spot as they received the information and brought the situation under control. Raids are being conducted to find the accused involved in the firing.
