US envoy opens ‘Startup Lab’ at Liaquat Memorial Library

Blome says US shares Quaid-i-Azam’s vision of Pakistan

KARACHI:

US Ambassador Donald Blome inaugurated the 'Startup Laboratory' during his visit to the Lincoln Corner at Liaquat Memorial Library in the city. Sindh's Minister for Culture and Education Sardar Ali Shah accompanied the US envoy.

While speaking on the occasion, the US ambassador said that 'Startup Labs' can make the dream of those individuals turned into a reality who wants to start their own businesses by using modern technology and tools for free.

He said that the people-to-people contacts between the US and Pakistan is our great strength. This year, the US and Pakistan are celebrating 75 years of bilateral relations and the inauguration of the 'Startup Laboratory' is a reflection of the strong bilateral relations between the two countries, he added.

Blome said that Lincoln Corners established at various cities of Pakistan provide technology and information resources to the Pakistani youth along with free educational and cultural programmes.

The modern US Startup Lab is equipped with robotics, 3D printers, photography setups, Windows and Mac computers, and video editing equipment.

Culture and Education Minister Sardar Shah, while speaking on this occasion, said in order to promote education, 106 schools have been established in the province with US support.

Meanwhile, the US ambassador visited the mausoleum of Quaid-i-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah and paid his respects to the founder of Pakistan ahead of Pakistan's 75th Independence Day. He laid a floral wreath at the mausoleum and signed the guestbook on behalf of the US Embassy in Islamabad.

Later, he visited the tombs of Liaquat Ali Khan, Pakistan's first Prime Minister, and Fatima Jinnah, Jinnah's sister. He toured the adjoining museum and admired the artifacts related to the life of the Quaid-i-Azam.
