Ranveer Singh's nude photo shoot row: Petition seeks to seize distribution of online, print copies

A Public Interest Litigation has been filed against Bollywood star's bold magazine cover

It appears the world does not wish to move on from Bollywood actor Ranveer Singh’s controversial photoshoot with Paper Magazine. After severe online trolling and registration of an FIR for “hurting women’s sentiments,” news has arrived that a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) has been initiated by the West Bengal government to seize all printed copies of the said Magazine’s recent cover that carries Singh’s nude photos.

According to The Indian Express, a PIL was initiated in the Calcutta High Court by advocate Nazia Ilahi Khan last week alleging that the cover photo is “obscene as per the opinion of the public at large.” Apart from demanding all printed copies of Paper Magazine’s recent cover to be seized, Ilahi also seeks to block the magazine’s website within India’s West Bengal.

The plea, following an out of sight, out of mind perspective, aims to remove all traces or signs of Singh’s nude photos from both; the internet and paper. The petitioner reasoned that the picture of Singh would “deprave the mind of the public at large in West Bengal, especially of minors” and therefore, the magazine needs to stop circulating.

The publication added that the case is most likely to be heard later this week. The pictures in question featured Singh flaunting his chiselled body as he posed for the cameras, while evidently concealing his private parts.
