Camp for thalassemia children held
A one-day blood camp for children with thalassemia was held in Haripur on Monday.
The camp was arranged by Darde Insaniya Welfare Foundation in collaboration with SMT Thalassemia Centre at City 13 Naseem Town Sector B.
Chairman City 13 Khan Afsar Awan along with other representatives of City 13 Barkat Ali Khan, Babar Shah, Umeer Khan, Irfan Lala Khanzada, Khan Mohammad, and Saleem Yusuf participated in the camp.
Besides residents, a large number of youngsters stepped up to donate blood. On the occasion, City 13 Chairman Khan Afsar Awan said that Thalassemia is a deadly disease. He said that children suffering from Thalassemia Major needed blood transfusion two to three times every month which is why blood donations are immensely significant.
He further said that both volunteers and blood donors deserved to be appreciated. They are contributing to helping those in need without any greed or material gain. He praised the efforts of Darde Insaniya Welfare Foundation and SMT Thalassemia Center and stated that they were commendable.
District Coordinator Haripur Mehtab Ali said that blood donation is a necessity for a receiver, while it is a blessing for a donor too.
He said that being able to save someone’s life is a great deed. He emphasised that a little effort can make the lives of children suffering from thalassemia much easier as they majorly depend on the blood of others. He further appealed to the youth to donate blood and to join them in this noble cause.
SMT Thalassemia Care and Prevention Center Shoaib Sultan, District Coordinator of Omid Zindagi Welfare Foundation Imran Shahzad, several donors and volunteers participated as well.
