Strictly against abusive relationships: Zarnish Khan says her compromise statement was non-gendered

Actor earlier shared the word ‘compromise’ is an essential tool that didn’t shouldn’t have a negative connotation

Actor Zarnish Khan feels misunderstood after commenting on a controversial subject where she defended statements that manipulate women into compromising in difficult situations. While the post she shared to voice her opinion was specifically targeted towards raising awareness against silencing women, the Sun Yaara actor intended to generalise this expectation instead of attributing it to one gender.

After her comment on compromise went viral, Khan took to Instagram on Wednesday to clarify her statement for those who took something else from her words.

Referring to compromise being used in households that ask daughters to understand and tolerate problematic behaviours just to keep their marriages, peace and honour afloat, Khan penned, “I know the context pretty well and I haven’t written anything regarding or against that! I’m only talking about the ‘slogans, statements and memes’ that create negative energy and endorse wrong ideas.”

Asserting that her opinion was never gendered, she added, “Another thing I added to the statement was to educate your boys the same way so we never have to face such issues in the first place! Some of you surprise to my core with your mind-numbing assumptions and conclusions.”

In the end, to avoid any further assumptions, she was straight-forward with her stance. “PS I highly condemn insensitive behaviour as well as mentally or physically abusive relationships.”

The 28-year-old actor took to her Instagram stories on Monday and shared an image that saw an elderly woman wipe the tears of a younger one and tell her that she has to compromise.

Defending the term, Khan wrote, “Why do we attach a negative connotation to such statements? There’s nothing wrong with knowing and understanding that life is all about compromises regardless of whatever the situation might be.”

She further added that if it were up to her, she would’ve added a guy in the image, implying that the statement isn't just for women but for both parties involved.

Concluding her statement, she suggested that one should work on improving things instead of wrecking them. “Theek ko kharab karnay ke bajaye sahi ko behtar karnay pe focus kerna chahiay dor-e-jahiliat se bachnay ke liay [Instead of wrecking something that’s already fine, we should focus on improving what is already okay so we save ourselves from the era of ignorance].”

However, while Khan’s intention may have been right all along, her choice of post to comment on compromising was wrong for sure. Originally, the Instagram post she shared had a message for parents who teach their daughters to compromise in marriage in the matter of physical and verbal abuse.
