COAS attends copter crash martyrs’ funeral

Martyrs buried with full military honour

RAWALPINDI:

Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Qamar Javed Bajwa attended the funeral prayers of Lieutenant General Sarfraz Ali, Major General Amjad Hanif and Brigadier Muhammad Khalid who embraced martyrdom in the Balochistan helicopter crash, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said on Wednesday.

The funeral prayers held at Army Graveyard, Rawalpindi, were attended by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Senate Chairman Sadiq Sanjrani, Balochistan Governor Mir Jan Muhammad Jamali, Chief Minister Mir Abdul Quddus Bizenjo, AJK Premier Sardar Tanveer Ilyas Khan, federal and provincial ministers and civil and military officials including relatives of the martyrs.

According to the military’s media wing, the COAS visited the families of Lt Gen Ali and Brig Khalid as well as the family of Lt Colonel Laiq Baig Mirza who embraced martyrdom in Ziarat.

The mortal remains of the martyrs’ crash were moved to Rawalpindi through helicopter. The martyrs were buried with full military honours, the ISPR added.

Meanwhile, the funeral prayers of other army personnel aboard the ill-fated helicopter were offered in their native towns.

The funeral prayers of Major Talha was held in Rawalpindi with Chief of General Staff Pakistan Army Lt Gen Azhar Abbas, Lt Gen Sahir Shamshad Mirza, Commander Rawalpindi Corps, military officials, relatives of the martyrs and civilians in attendance.

A contingent of the Pakistan Army presented guard of honour and the martyr was buried with full military honour. Commander Rawalpindi Corps presented national flag to Major Talha’s father, and a floral wreath was laid.

The funeral prayer of Naik Mudassar Fayyaz was offered in Shakargarh, Narowal. General Officer Commanding Sialkot Garrison and senior military and civil officials attended the funeral.

An army contingent presented the guard of honour to him while the national flag was presented to his family and floral wreaths were laid on his grave.

The funeral prayer of Major Saeed was offered in Larkana with Commander Logistics Pannu Aqil Garrison, serving senior officers, soldiers, relatives of the martyr and several civilians attending the last rites.

Pakistan’s flag was presented to the martyr’s father and he was buried with full military honour.
