Six drown at Hawke’s Bay, Turtle Beach

Over a dozen drowning incidents reported in Karachi in past 10 days, says Edhi service

Six people drowned over the weekend at various points on Hawke’s Bay, while rescue services were able to recover bodies of four victims till Sunday evening.

Rescue teams on Sunday recovered the bodies of two young men who drowned while swimming at the Hawk’s Bay Beach on Saturday afternoon.

Edhi and Chippa diver services rescued and shifted the deceased’s bodies to Dr Ruth KM Pfau Civil Hospital by ambulances. The drowned were identified as 16-year-old Mohsin, son of Zahoor and 15-year-old Mamoon, son of Imdad Karim. The deceased were residents of North Karachi. The police handed over the bodies to the heirs after completing formalities.

Meanwhile on Sunday, four people were washed away by high tides while swimming at Turtle Beach on Sunday morning. The Edhi diver service team recovered the bodies of the two persons while the search for the other two was underway.

One of the bodies found has been identified as 25-year-old Nihal, son of Irfan, whereas the other could not be immediately identified. The search for the bodies of 15-year-old Fahad and 25-year-old Shahrukh was underway. All the victims are residents of the Sindhi Hotel area of Liaquatabad No. 10.

Moreover, the one-day-old body of Amanullah, 22, a resident of Manghopir who had drowned, was recovered from the nullah near Mai Gadhi Mazar, Northern Bypass area of Manghopir. On receiving the information, the police reached the spot, fished the body out with the help of Chhipa volunteers, and shifted it to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for legal formalities.

Separately, Yaqub, a resident of Sarjani Town, died after falling into a nullah near Power House Chowrangi in North Karachi. Chhipa volunteers pulled his body out of the water and shifted it to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for legal formalities.

Meanwhile, the Edhi Foundation has released the data of 11 dead bodies that were pulled out of nullahs and drains during the recent rains in the city. At the same time, the figures of Chippa, police and other sources are yet to be issued. According to a conservative estimate, more than 20 deaths have occurred due to drowning in the entire Karachi division.

According to the spokesperson, from July 21 to July 28 this month, the teams of Edhi Naval Services have recovered 11 bodies. According to the data, on July 21, two bodies, one of a woman and the other of a child, were recovered from Hub Nullah at Rais Goth. On July 22, the drowned body of a 12-year-old boy was recovered from the nullah at Shah Faisal Colony No. 5.

On July 22, the body of a 35-year-old man was recovered from the Hub Sakran nullah.
A body of a 26-year-old youth was recovered from the nullah at Shafiq Colony, Sohrab Goth, on July 25. Another body of a young man was found in a nullah near Ziauddin Hospital, Clifton, while the body of a six-year-old boy was recovered from Sector 51/B of Sarjani.

Another body of a 30-year-old man was found in the nullah of Qalandria Park at Sakhi Hasan on July 26. On the same day, the body of a 25-year-old youth was also recovered from the Salar Goth Nullah in Malir. On July 28, a dead body was found in the Hub River, while on July 28, another body of a 40-year-old man was recovered from a drain near Gulistan Johar’s Dubai House.
