After initially streaming on OTT platform Tapmad, actor Mahira Khan’s maiden production Barwaan Khiladi will now be screening on the small screen. The not so “sanitised version of a cricket story” stars vlogger Shahveer Jafry and singer Danyal Zafar among others in pivotal roles.

The news was revealed on Friday when Express Entertainment shared the first promo clip of the show on YouTube and announced that the web-series will premiere on the channel on August 11 at 8pm and will air every Thursday at the same time.

The clip revolves around a small-town boy, Akbar, played by Zafar, who is passionate about playing cricket on a national level. Highlighting the prejudice faced by promising young cricketers in a sport dominated by powerful and well-known names, the promo kicks off with Zafar and Jafry’s characters locking horns, as the latter’s Jahangir manages to nab a crucial spot in the same league as Akbar’s through unfair means, making Akbar the 12th, additional player who came in solely on merit.

A complete package of what a young man with dreams has to do in the midst of rivalry, power and an unfair system, it also sheds light on what one has to face to even qualify for the playing 11.

The series also stars Kinza Hashmi, Sarmad Khoosat, Saba Faisal, Hina Ashfaque, Mohsin Gillani, Shafqat Cheema, Mira Sethi, Usman Peerzada, Fawad Jalal, Salman Butt, Meer Yusuf, Ali Tahir, Khaqan Shahnawaz, Zarrar Khan, Sajjad ul Haq, Ali Abbas, Waqar Ali, Hammad Akmal and Umer Hayat Chaudhry.

Written by Shahid Dogar and helmed by famed director Adnan Sarwar of Motorcycle Girl, the mini-series also features special guest appearances by two big names; actor Fawad Khan and cricketer Shoaib Malik. Khan produced the show under her label Soul Fry Films with producer Nina Kashif.
