People wake up in drenched city
Under the third spell of Monsoon, heavy and moderate rains lashed the city for the second day on Monday.
The highest precipitation was recorded in Quaidabad at 39.1mm, whereas on the previous day, the highest rainfall of 217mm in 24 hours was recorded in the Saddar area.
The heavy rain spell in the city will likely move toward Balochistan, however, there are still chances of rain in the port city on Tuesday.
The previous record of rainfall in the city for 24 hours was not broken. The three weather stations that hold the city record are 207 mm at Old Airport, 189.2 mm at PAF Base Faisal and 211.3 mm at PAF Base Masroor.
The weather remained partly cloudy and completely overcast in different parts of the city on Monday. In the morning, moderate and light rain occurred in various areas, including Quaidabad, Airport, Teen Talwar Clifton, Muhammad Ali Society, Defence View, Shahrah-e-Faisal, DHA, Korangi and Gulshan-e-Hadid. Drizzle and light showers occurred in a few areas.
According to the data released by the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), the highest rainfall was recorded in Quaidabad on Monday at 39.1mm. PAF Base Faisal recorded 14.5 mm, Korangi 11.5 mm, Old Airport 9.8 mm, Jinnah Terminal 8 mm, University Road 7.2 mm, DHA Phase-II 5.8 mm, Gulshan-e-Hadid 5 mm, Saadi Town 4.6 mm, Saddar and PAF Base Masroor 3 mm, Gadap Town 2.6 mm, Gulshan Maymar 2.2 mm, Orangi Town 1.4 mm while North Karachi recorded the lowest rainfall of 0.6 mm.
Urban flooding
Due to the recent rains, various parts of the city, including the low-lying areas, have been flooded. Rain-affected areas still have an accumulation of several feet of water. Citizens faced severe problems due to the accumulation of rainwater on MA Jinnah Road, II Chundrigar Road, Zebunnisa Street, Arts Council Chowrangi, Passport Office, Arambagh, Supreme Court Registry, Sindh Assembly, Sindh High Court Building, Arts Council, National Museum, Urdu Bazar, Old KMC Building, Korangi Creek, Gurumandir (Sabilwali Masjid and Banuri Town Masjid roads), Kala Pul, Akhtar Colony, Qayyumabad Chowrangi, Korangi Crossing, Old City Area, Bolton Market, Kharadar, and Denso Hall etc.
