The Federal Investigation Agency's (FIA) cybercrime circle has arrested a man from Rawalpindi for defrauding a cancer patient of Rs1.6 million by promising him to deliver medicines for treatment. The alleged conman, Zohaib Ali, scammed the patient through a fake e-mail, for which he reportedly accessed the doctor's e-mail illegally.
According to the FIA officials, the arrested suspect is the leader of an organised online fraud gang. Another prime suspect of the gang, Mubeen Ali, has already been arrested. A case has been registered for further investigation.
The FIA's Cyber Crime Circle had conducted a raid on a tip-off in Rawalpindi on Friday, in which the accused was arrested.
During the initial investigation, the suspect admitted to the crime and said that he first gained access to e-mail of a doctor illegally and used that e-mail to mint money from the cancer patient. He confessed that he had sent an email to the cancer patient demanding Rs1.6 million to supply medicine.
