Google is revising its decision to hide app permission lists on product listings in the Play Store after the decision was met with outcry.
Android Developers tweeted recently that their team had heard public opinion and was reinstating the app permission list. They emphasized that “privacy and transparency are core values in the Android community”.
While the update has still not been installed into the Play Store, the Android Developers promised in their tweet that it would be brought back shortly.
Google had introduced the Data Safety feature to inform users which apps were collecting different kinds of data, and if it was being shared to third parties as well. However, the Play Store suddenly removed the Permission list, removing app transparency of data usage. The company stated that the developers were “responsible for making complete and accurate declarations in [their] app’s store listing on Google Play.”
The negative reaction of the community over the unsettled fear of data breach and loss of control, prompted Google to reconsider their decision.
