Instagram is launching a new searchable map experience on the social media app to allow users to explore popular tagged locations nearby, while also letting them filter location results, like cafes, and beauty salons.

Previously the feature only extended to posts that were tagged with locations, but with this new update, users can search the map, filter options, and move the map around to explore options nearby.

Meta believes the searchable map allows new locations and businesses to be discovered via tagged posts, stories, and guides. Locations can also be found on the map by using relevant hashtags.

By tapping location tags on posts on your feed or stories, you can discover new locations, but can also search places on the Explore page. Users can also browse recent stories, posts, and relevant guides related to the location of tagged locations for more information.

Locations can also be saved to be revisited later and shared via direct messages to friends or groups. Public profiles can add location tags or stickers to their content to make it appear on the map.

Google’s Senior Vice President Prabhakar Raghavan had recently observed, according to Tech Crunch, that the young generation is often turning to apps like TikTok and Instagram to discover places and facts, instead of using Google Search and Maps.
