An employee and his two accomplices allegedly looted gold and cash from a jewellery shop within the Rawat police jurisdiction.
The police registered a case against shop's employee, Ejaz Ahmed, and his two accomplices and started an investigation.
The jewellery shop owner, Rana Rauf Azam, told the police that he had gone to Faisalabad to attend his nephew's wedding, leaving his employee Ejaz Ahmed behind to look after the shop. The shop owner further said that when he came back, he found the locks broken and the gold ornaments were missing.
He said that his employee Ejaz Ahmed along with his two other accomplices looted the shop. The complainant told the police that the accused stole 96 women's rings, 12 men's rings, 15 bracelets, 21 necklace chains, 15 bead sets, 12 diamond rings, 15 pendants, two and a half tolas of pure gold and three gold sets worth Rs8.6 million.
He told the police that the accused also stole Rs0.7m from the cash counter of the shop.
The police said that a case has been registered on the complaint of the shop owner and raids were being carried out to arrest the accused.
Meanwhile, the heavy lights worth Rs2 million installed at the Committee Chowk underpass have been stolen by unidentified persons along with the electric wiring.
The Parks and Horticulture Authority registered a case at the Waris Khan police station against unknown persons.
Muhammad Irfan Shakir, Superintendent Electrical Light Branch of PHA, in his complaint to the police, took the stand that embellishment lights were installed at the Committee Chowk underpass under the urban beautification project.
He said that unknown thieves have stolen all the lights along with the wiring costing Rs2 million.
The police have registered a case under section 379 against unknown persons. The PHA official said that the police have registered a case but have not yet been able to trace the thieves.
Boy's body found
The body of a 10-year-old boy, who went missing on Tuesday while going out to play in Rawalpindi's Wah Cantonment area, was discovered in the field.
Police shifted the body to the hospital for a post-mortem and started an investigation
Police said that Moeez went out to play around 2pm but did not return. During the search, the body of the teenager was found in the field in a nearby street. The body also bore wounds in the head.
The police formed a team to investigate the killing after collecting forensic evidence from the crime scene.
SSP Investigation Ghazanfar Shah also met the family members of the victim and assured them that the persons involved in the crime will be arrested and punished.
He said that the incident will be investigated from different angles. Meanwhile, a speeding car fell off a bridge and onto the railway track on Mandira Kalayam Road near Kalayam Chowk in Rawalpindi, leaving one person dead and four injured.
As a result of the accident, a person named Asif died on the spot while Zubair, Khurram Shahzad, Manwar and Ashfaq sustained injuries and were shifted to the hospital. The car was removed from the railway track. The car's passengers were friends and the car fell down the bridge while taking a turn. Police have launched an inquiry.
