After the decrease in petroleum products, the district administration has formulated a plan for public and goods transport.
Under the plan, Rawalpindi Commissioner oorul Amin Mengal has directed all the deputy commissioners of the region to negotiate with the transporters to decrease fares themselves, otherwise the government will release the list of fares.
The district administration officials said that the recent reduction in the prices of petroleum products has reduced the cost of transport, the full benefit of which will be passed on to the consumers. The reduction in public transport fares will begin with local transport running within the city, after which it will also apply to rickshaw, taxi and online taxi in the city.
In this regard, banners will be displayed at all bus stands to announce reduction in fares. Lists of new fares at all bus stands will be displayed at prominent places.
The deputy commissioners of Rawalpindi, Attock, Jhelum and Chakwal will start negotiations with the transporters from today.
The official said that in the second phase, efforts will be made to reduce the fares of goods transport and the transporters will be convinced to reduce the fares.
